Healthcare Case Study

Situation:
Cardinal Health had the need to maintain a higher level of security access into their facility by transport delivery trucks and individuals not entering through the main lobby entrance (i.e. other entrances at the employee lounge, and other delivery entrances). Employees were inconvenienced and time-wasted each time they had to answer the door and "screen" the entrance of delivery, etc.

Critical Issue:
Cardinal Health develops, manufactures, packages, and markets medical supplies and pharmaceuticals; and required a greater degree of security for access onto the property for deliveries as well as access through "unsecured" doors. Only the receptionist desk at the front entrance was relatively secured. Other doors would be answered by any employee in the area and delivery trucks were not screened until they reached the dock area.

Capability Needed:
Four outdoor locations with weatherproofed phones; one for the gate entrances. Each location also needed cabling infrastructure (conduit, coring, etc.); and then the phones needed "ring-down" programming in the Definity PBX. This would allow the caller needing access to simply lift the handset and the call would automatically ring down to the individual within the facility who could validate the delivery and provide automatic access.

We Provided:
We partnered with CTI Management Services to provide the external conduit, cabling, and weather-proofed phones; and we provided the necessary switch room cross-connects and software translations to complete the application.

Results:
The facility is now better secured against illegal access at both the gate entrance for trucks as well as the other entrances to the facility. Deliveries are validated first prior to the gate entrance being opened; as well as the other automatic door openers at the other three locations.
